Exploring the Potential of Deep UV Raman Spectroscopy for Biomaterial Characterization of Human Teeth

This study aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of deep UV (DUV) Raman spectroscopy in analyzing biochemical and structural variations across different dental tissues and treatments. DUV Raman spectroscopy successfully differentiates between sound, carious, and treated teeth, revealing significant differences in mineral and protein content. Carious teeth show reduced mineral content, while whitening treatments increase both mineral and protein content. High-quality spectra, aided by pre-resonance conditions and reduced fluorescence interference, allow for precise identification of carious conditions. The proposed analytical approach for diagnosing caries-affected teeth offers a valuable tool for clinical diagnostics, contributing to more accurate treatment planning and improved strategies in dental care.
